STUDY 01

We are undaunted. We are enlightened.

We build by choice. We lead with light.

For generations, Spelman and Morehouse have formed one of the most important intellectual ecosystems in Black America.

In 1867, a group of men gathered in the basement of Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia, and founded what would become Morehouse College. In 1881, two women arrived in Atlanta with $100 and a mission, and founded what would become Spelman College.

Neither institution was supposed to exist. Both have persisted for over a century.

rebelmade's inaugural capsule honors this persistence — not as nostalgia, but as instruction. These garments are designed for us folk who understand that the institutions that have shaped us were themselves acts of defiance, and who carry that same defiance forward along their individual paths.

Each piece functions as an artifact — engaging institutional memory while acknowledging that every generation participates in shaping what these institutions become.
